Getting Ready for Baby When we first found out that we were having a baby it was very early in the morning on New Year's Day, 2009. Lauren woke up around 6am and took a pregnancy test which turned out to be positive. That exciting news began nine months of anticipation, fear, faith and preparation for the little guy who showed up on September 17. Baby Showers There were three baby showers thrown for Lauren. First, at our annual Egan family vacation in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina her mom and aunts surprised Lauren with a shower when she returned from an afternoon playing miniature golf with her cousins like she does every year. The second shower was a Kutsko-family cookout thrown by Loren's sister Rachel and their mom, Chris. This shower wasn't a surprise and was lots of fun as many family and friends from Loren's pre-college years attended and showered the couple with gifts. The next baby shower was a few weeks later at our bi-annual Bauer Family Reunion in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania. This shower was also a surprise. There was also a baby shower at Lauren's US Airways office that her coworkers threw for her and finally, Lauren's girlfriends in Phoenix threw a wine party. This last party was the latest that Lauren stayed up in all of the pregnancy as she was up until past 11pm! Heartbeat Lauren and Loren were eager to hear their new baby's heartbeat because there had been two failed pregnancies before, so they scheduled an appointment to get a sonogram. I (Loren) remember tearing up when we saw the first image of our baby in the womb and heard his heartbeat! What a joy to know that the conception had been successful and that we were going to have a baby! Anticipation and Preparation |
